CLIA - the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, 42 U.S.C. §263a - is the federal standard governing clinical laboratory testing in the United States, administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. A CLIA-certified lab is inspected, its staff must meet defined qualifications, its methods are validated, and it participates in ongoing proficiency testing.
Any CLIA certificate can be verified through CMS. Listed above.
HCCL is owned and operated by the Untoxicate founding family.
What gets measured
Every Untoxicate panel measures three liver enzymes:
- ALT - alanine aminotransferase
- AST - aspartate aminotransferase
- GGT - gamma-glutamyl transferase
Results are reported as actual values against standard reference ranges, so you can see where you sit and follow how the numbers move between tests.
All analysis happens inside the laboratory. The kit you receive at home is a specimen collection kit -it collects and transports your sample and nothing else. It contains no reagents, measures nothing, and produces no result on its own.
How the test is classified
The assay is a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT). It was designed, validated, and implemented within HCCL's own laboratory and is performed exclusively there. It is not manufactured or sold as a standalone diagnostic device.
HCCL complies with applicable federal requirements for clinical laboratory testing, including CLIA quality system standards, personnel qualifications, proficiency testing, and validation requirements.
Where we can test
Not available in New York or New Jersey. Both states impose their own laboratory licensure requirements beyond CLIA. We currently cannot offer testing to residents of either state. If you order from NY or NJ, contact us and we will refund the test portion of your order.
Turnaround
Results are typically available 48–72 hours after the laboratory receives your sample.
The clock starts when the lab receives and logs your sample, not when you post it. Shipping time varies and sits outside that window. If results take longer than 72 hours from receipt at the lab, the test is free; contact us and we will refund it.
Your data
What we hold
Your name and contact details, the results returned by the laboratory, and anything you enter yourself in the Untoxicate app.
Who can see it
You. The laboratory that runs your test. The Untoxicate staff who need access to support your account. Nobody else.
What we do not do
We do not sell your health data. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, insurers, or employers. We do not use your individual results in marketing.
HIPAA
Untoxicate is not a HIPAA covered entity. The laboratory that analyzes your specimen handles protected health information under its own HIPAA obligations and its agreements with us.
What that means for you in practice: we do not sell your personal information, we do not share your results for advertising, and we do not disclose them to insurers or employers without your explicit consent unless compelled by valid legal process.
Security
Results are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is restricted to authorized personnel and is logged.
Retention
We keep your results for as long as your account is active, so you can track changes over time. Separately, clinical laboratories are required to retain test records for a minimum period under CLIA - those records stay with the lab regardless of your account.
Deleting your data
Contact us and we will delete your Untoxicate account and the results held against it, subject to records the laboratory is legally required to keep.
Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Questions
If you need documentation to verify any of the above, get in touch and we will provide it.
Untoxicate does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. A single test is a snapshot, not a diagnosis - the value is in testing more than once and watching the direction of travel. Discuss your results with a doctor.
